Toronto producer Deebs is back from a year of isolation in Edinburgh, U.K. with the fresh but melancholy Blooms EP. The two new songs on the EP are Deebs' latest work since a few 2015 and 2016 remixes of artists like Travis Scott. Blooms is Deebs' first release on STX&BRX, a sub-label of Claude VonStroke's Dirtybird.

Blooms continues from Deebs' 2015 EP Shift, made in collaboration with Los Angeles R&B singer-songwriter Jarell Perry. On the EP's title track "Blooms," Deebs exchanges Perry's silky crooning for more elusive and nebulous electronic vocals, but maintains the balance between angelic synth and an entrancing bassline. It's relaxed and sexy, with echoes of something unfulfilled, too.

"I wrote those songs from my apartment in Mississauga," said Deebs in an email to THUMP. Mississauga is a city in Ontario, where Deebs lived before making the move to the U.K. He explained that his transitional state of mind fueled the creation of these songs, and that they are "the product of many late night solo sessions. I think the melancholy mood throughout both tracks was probably the result of feeling a bit isolated at the time. Getting ready to move to a new country.'

Whether you're alone or with a friend, Deebs' Blooms makes for an entrancing listen. Check it out below and look out for the whole EP on Soundcloud.
