'Doggtown Unleashed' is a Trove of Hell-Raising Grime Bangers

Starkey, Shiftee and ELOQ lead the Amsterdam label's latest compilation.

Everyone with a taste for blood-boiling bass music will be salivating waterfalls over Doggtown Unleashed, the new compilation from Amsterdam's Doggtown label. Showing off the imprint's dedication to bass music that feels like injecting pure, uncut Red Bull into your veins, the album features club cuts from Starkey, Shiftee, ELOQ, Big Dope P, and Hitmane (whose twisted pop remix of a Joseph Marinetti track was a recent THUMP favorite).

Run by self-described "Asian DJ boyband duo" Guerilla Speakerz, the label has released five EPs since their inception in 2013, and already claims DJ Shadow as a fanboy. Doggtown Unleashedrounds up an international cohort of producers who share their vision of club-oriented bass music with a heavy pour of grime. The first half of the album starts out with melodically-inclined tracks before moving into the strictly banger grime zone.

"Our scene is still a bit of a black sheep in the Dutch musical landscape," Daniel and Marlon of Guerilla Speakerz tell THUMP. "But people have started to take notice, and are growing into different, fresher stuff." The duo also says that their label's sound combines many different elements of club music, but "it's not about a particular fad or genre, it's about an energy level."
