Explore Your Dynamic Alpine Sexuality With This New Album and Immersive Art Experience

Artist Jordan Sarah and the people behind Rinsed and The Umbrella release a retro-satirical album and video.

Are you an adrenaline junkie? A lover of neon athletic gear with a death wish? A deviant with a soft spot for mountain living and white powder? If you answered YES to these questions, then you might be a prime candidate for the Dynamic Alpine Sexual experience.

The new album and immersive audiovisual performance project DAS: Dynamic Alpine Sexual tells the tale of fictional 1980's ski star Dirk Dassler who "sabotages a high flying career to follow a deluded dream." The music for the project is all high-stakes choral loops mixed with house beats and motifs reminiscent of early video game soundtracks.

Multimedia artist Jordan Sarah created and stars in DAS, both the performance and the album, which serves as the event's score. The Umbrella is releasing the album today along with a video for the album's first track "Gratitude," which you can watch exclusively here on THUMP. The NYC pop-up nightclub Rinsed will produce the DAS video event that will show at The Umbrella Factory in Brooklyn Friday March 31, 2017 and Saturday April 1, 2017. The artist has also shared a drum n' bass remix for the album's third track "We Let Go" by Aquarian, which you can listen to below.

The cornball tagline of the project, "He reached the summit, and found rock bottom," is spot on; Sarah explained to THUMP that he created DAS to satirize the wealth, sex, and bravado-soaked club scene. He was inspired by the excess surrounding ski culture, and draws on the 80's aesthetic and playboy values of Wolf Of Wall Street that seem to be making a resurgence. Telling us the story behind his project, Sarah recalled the night where the inspiration for DAS struck.

"Behind me danced thousands of intoxicated party goers, dancing and fornicating to minimal techno," Sarah wrote in an email to THUMP. "Flame throwers on cabanas were timed to the drops and peaks and as I lay looking at the stars I saw human figures in bright colored onesies twisting and turning with wealth afforded grace down a perfect double black diamond. I knew then that I wanted to take this as far as it could go."

The video, with its at times intentionally poor editing and cheesy graphics, is both retro fun and eerily dystopian. It features cheering, big-haired ski fans, naked ladies, analog TV bars, robots, and of course high-octane extreme skiing. The character of Dirk Dassler, the throwback aesthetics, and the pounding, melodramatic synth create the effect of dropping Boogie Nights' Dirk Diggler into a game of Aggressive Alpine Skiing.

"I stood up and told my friend 'this should be a genre called Alpine Sexual,'" said Sarah, explaining how he came up with the name for his project. "He stood up with an eleven yard stare and uttered 'Dynamic Alpine.' Then, seemingly in unison, our gazes met and we merged into Dynamic Alpine Sexual."

You too can enter the world of the Dynamic Alpine Sexual. Get DAS the album on The Umbrella.
