Members of the House of Mizrahi Announce New Social Media Dance Competition

Dancers Shea and Omari of the distinguished House of Mizrahi have partnered with social media application Clapit for a new dance competition called Dancing for the Streets, with the grand prize of an all-expenses paid trip to New York City. The rules are extremely simple: all you have to do is upload a video of yourself dancing in your favorite with the hashtag #danceit to Clapit, an app that sorts content according to how much "applause" users give it.

As they explain in a video introducing the initiative, it doesn't matter if you're voguing or flexing—the goal is to get as many virtual "claps" as you can, so it's in your advantage to try to get friends to sign up. Videos for the competition can be up to one minute long, but they recommend that they're no longer than 20 seconds.

While they're in New York, the winner will be named the new Clapit Ambassador of Dance at an awards event, and be mentored in the studio by Shea and Omari. They'll also connect the promising dancer with a professional photographer/videographer to put together a pro kit, or a professional portfolio of photos and videos, which can be submitted to professional agencies.

Clapit is available in the iOS store, and allows users to upload photos, videos, or gifs. The app is organized around Open Calls such as this, which the Clapit community can compete in for various prizes.
