Hubie Davison's "Khayyam Grey" is Better Than a Full Body Hug

A soulful dance track born in the Irish countryside.

Hubie Davison's "Khayyam Grey" is the kind of track that you want to feel inside you—and I don't mean that in a sexual way, although you're welcome to interpret it like that. I just mean that it's grounded by this squelchy, wonky bassline that headphones don't do much justice to. You want to feel that shit in the club, letting it rumble its way through your belly and down to your toes. The 26-year-old Irish producer admits that his funky Khayyam Grey EP was inspired by everything from Werkdiscs and Sound Signature to Bill Withers and Otis Redding—but engineered for the dancefloor. "I moved back to Ireland from London late last year. Strangely, upon setting up shop in a little studio in the countryside outside of Dublin, I was interested in making stuff that would make people move," he tells us. Khayyam Grey will be Davison's second release for the Berlin-based label Leisure System, and also includes "Get On," a slice of funky psychedelia, and "Vowels," a balmy, vocal-heavy house track.
