Listen to the First Giorgio Moroder Solo Track in 22 Years

He's baaaaaack—with GIFs.

Giorgio Moroder—the 74-year-old iconic Italian producer—might just be a fan of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. How, but for his love of that awkward meatball, might we explain why he's decided to release his first solo track in 22 years years via Adult Swim's Singles Program?

To rewind.

After winning Grammy's with disco legend Donna Summer and being honored at the Dance Music Hall of Fame, Moroder left the spotlight. In the past year, he's been thrusted back on our radar, mostly due to an unexpected collaboration with everyone's favorite robots. Moroder worked on Daft Punk's Random Access Memories telling his life story in "Giorgio by Moroder," after admitting he was a fan of their song "One More Time." As that album premiered, Moroder made his first ever live DJ appearance at Brooklyn's Output as part of a Red Bull Music Academy party, an event that's already been documented in the Library of Congress. More recently he's released a remix to Coldplay's "Midnight," said to be working with Kelis, Madeon and Lana Del Ray—a far-reaching spectrum of today's, and yesterday's sounds— and announced he's working on his very own album. Alas, that leads us to today's sudden revival and first official single.

In a lineup usually filled with the likes of Flying Lotus and a slew of underground rappers, Moroder's release strategy with Adult Swim seems unlikely, but who knows what this genius is thinking? Either way, with this year's singles lineup, Adult Swim has taken a turn into dance music. Starting with Moroder's introductory, 8-minute, fast-paced modular synth journey, Adult Swim is working on releases from Machinedrum, Fatima Al-Qadiri and RP Boo in the coming weeks.
