The Last Record: Marcus Marr Just Can't Get Enough of Disco

Disco is prominent in the producer and DJ's selections.

Producer, DJ, and multi-instrumentalist Marcus Marr will stay as busy as ever this summer. After a collection of festival appearances, UK-based Marr will continue to travel across the globe for solo sets, day parties, and anything else he can fit into his jam-packed schedule. Most recently, Marr dropped "Rocketship," his latest disco-tinged track on DFA Records. The track is Marr in his most exciting form. Just listen to him play that infectious guitar riff or freak out on that groovy bass. It's pure funk, easily digestible, and perfect for the summertime.

For our latest "Last Record" feature, Marr revealed the details of his last record purchases which fall strictly in line with the legacy of dance music.

1. My Name is Caroline by Caroline Crawford

This 1978 record I took a chance on, as its by the woman that sang on the all-time dance classic "Let's Start the Dance." It's from the same year and like "Let's Start the Dance", it is produced by Hamilton Bohannon. It's a nice album–pretty loose and live-sounding. The second cut on the A-side, "Coming on Strong," sounds a bit like a blueprint or trial run for "Let's Start the Dance" and the last song, "Riding On Your Love" is spacey and sweet.

  1. Eatin' Glue by Paranoid London

This was re-pressed recently so I picked up a copy. It's a modern acid classic and my favorite tune of theirs. Paranoid London are acid purists. In fact ,they are so hardcore, all their records appear to be mixed to mono.

3. "I Feel Love" (Sterac Instrumental Dub) by Donna Summer

This is an edit/extension of "I Feel Love" that I wanted for DJ sets. The vocals have been pretty much removed. Only some long ooohs are still in there. It's very drawn out and hypnotic and taking out the vocals somehow succeeds in giving this overplayed record a new lease of life.
