English composer Mica Levi today received her first ever Oscar nomination for the original score to the 2016 film Jackie. Natalie Portman was also nominated for her role as lead actress in the Pablo Larraín-directed biopic about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

As well as scoring films, Levi produces genre-bending music as Micachu and as part of the experimental pop group Micachu And The Shapes, releasing music on labels including Rough Trade and Demdike Stare's DDS. She has previously won a European Film Award for her soundtrack to the 2013 film Under The Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson.

Other artists nominated in the category of original score include Nicholas Britell for Moonlight, Justin Hurwitz for La La Land, Dustin O'Halloran and Hauschka for Lion, and Thomas Newman for Passengers. Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson was not nominated for his soundtrack for Arrival. You can see a full list of the nominations on Variety.

Last year, ANOHNI received an Oscar nomination in the category of best original song for "Manta Ray," composed with J Ralph for the documentary Racing Extinction. After reportedly not being slated to perform at the ceremony, she wrote a personal essay explaining her decision not to attend the Academy Awards.

The Academy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, and air live on February 26.
