MTA's Drum & Bass Future Don Dimension Levels Up Large

Check his latest "Jet Black" and bank the bassweight on this exclusive mix

Ever since his tune "Crowd Reaction" elevated Dimension from promising youngster to bonafide contender in the UK drum & bass scene last year, all eyes have been on the Londoner as he looks to capitalize on his developing notoriety. Although he kept mum about it for over half a year, Dimension had moved on from the watchful eye of Cyantific at CYN and inked a deal with international scene behemoths MTA, making it Twitter official in October and joining the likes of Nero, Chase and Status and Kove amongst what must be one of the world's heaviest hitting rosters in bass.

Only a few months into the arrangement, Dimension is nestling in comfortably. "MTA understand that I'm my own artist with my own direction but at the same time have a huge amount of experience in the industry so they can offer up invaluable advice," he explains. "Anything from small details in tracks, to a complete direction as an artist - the team at MTA are all on point really. Wilkinson & Cyantific were also both really influential and taught me a lot during the time I released on CYN Music. I've been lucky enough to have good people around me from the start which has helped me avoid a lot of mistakes, especially when you first start releasing music."

After announcing himself to the label with a remix of Chase & Status's patois-punk heater "International," Dimension has released a quadruplet of tracks, starting with the spatter-synthed "Move Faster" and later on to the bossy-as-fuck roller "Whip Slap" premiered by Annie Mac last week. Hot on the heels of Friction's premiere last night, we've got the last of the fourtet as an online exclusive: "Jet Black," a pop-facing dark club tune that exposes Dimension's unique ability to bring the heat while maintaining elements of deepness and musicality.

"Dance music is a mix of music and engineering, and for your music to really sound big on a festival rig it takes a lot of hard work and practice," says Dimension. "For my latest single, and in particular with "Jet Black," I'd been listening to a lot of dark, German techno bits. I love the cinematic industrial feel those tunes can create in a club, so I really just tried to get that vibe going."

Oh, that's not enough? Some people! Okay, then. Dimension's also put together a mix for us in conjunction with the release of "Jet Black." The collection finds him paying homage to inspirations old and new, with Cyantific and Wilkinson from the CYN camp well represented on one hand, and MTA fam Moko and Chase and Status on the other. Elsewhere, Critical neuro badman Mefjus tears shit up and Dimension's own Deadmau5 bootleg gets a late rinse. By the end of it, why Dimension is so hotly tipped is no secret - He's got an energy that's as comfortable in a sweaty basement as it is upon a festival stage, and he brings the bassweight with class and melody as both a producer and DJ.

"In this 30 minute mix, you'll get a feel as to what I'm playing out in my sets at the moment," he explains. "It's quite fast paced and carries a lot of energy, but that's the way I like the club to feel when I'm playing. There's some great new bits from Cyantific, Tantrum Desire & Frankee as well."
