Welcome to Notes from the Underground, THUMP's weekly premiere feature dedicated to shining a light on underground sonics from around the world. Every week, we'll start at the surface and dig deeper into the underground with each track. In this week's edition, we've got everything from spooky house to reptilian bass to garage, two-step, and some latin influenced dance beats. You can check them all out at this one-stop shop. If you told us last week that a spooky deep house track based off of a Simon & Garfunkel sample was gonna park itself in our airwaves, we'd have looked at you funny. Then we heard Bobby Nourmand.

House of Black Lanterns - "The Smack" [Hypercolour]

There's some devil's disco vibes on this one. The tune takes a house beat and slathers it in dystopian techno atmospherics. The result is a spooky groover that arches along until disintegrating under the weight of it's own evil.

Astro Duo - "Quantum" [Astro Records]

Birmingham, UK team Astro Duo make bass music for lizard people. Their tune "Quantum," the b-side off of an upcoming 2-track on their own Astro Records, is a six minutes of vaguely chilled out breakbeat reptilian laser bass.

Deezy & Embee - "Phases" [Party Like Us]

AC Slater's Party Like Us has an iron-grasp on stateside garage sounds, and the label's latest find, Boston's Deezy & Embee, bring old school UK vibes with a souped-up bass that'll fit quite snugly into a Slater Night Bass set.

Lojik - "Day Z" [Durkle Disco]

What better for follow up some US-made garage than with some crusty-as-fuck Bristolian two-step? The Durkle Disco label has a monopoly on the sound at the moment - Minimal, stark, old school two-step that rattles with dark tones.

Lo Shea - "You'll Know When" [SZE]

In addition to making groovy, minimal warehouse techno, Lo Shea also runs Hope Works, one of Sheffield, UK's most happening dance spaces. His tune "You'll Know When" rumbles along with a crusty kick and shuffle while tribal samples cycle in the background. It's what you want playing at the warehouse rave when you show up at 4pm.

MPeach - "Malania" [Dutty Artz]

Who doesn't like some old-school Spanish reggae (also know as "The Noise") with a silky side of bass and smooth, buttery drums? Born from MPeach, and her collaborations via artists from Venezuela, Barcelona, and Brooklyn, this is global music at its very finest, taking cues from such movement as Miami Bass and the Caracas-born Change Tuki. "Malania" is drops March 10 on Dutty Artz.
