'Now That's What I Call EDM' is a Thing That Exists

Unfortunately, Deadmau5 wishes that it didn't.

Bear Grillz released his Now That's What I Call EDM EP in March—but now the record has surfaced on Beatport under the title They Made Us Change The Name. This begs the question: Who is "they"?

And the answer is: Universal Music Group's Indian branch, which quietly released the first installment of Now That's What I Call EDM 2014, a compilation of dance music hits from the likes of Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, and Deadmau5. However, it's likely that no one in the Western world would even know about the release if it hadn't been for Mr. Mau5, who fired off a few angry Tweets last night when he discovered that his track "Suckfest9001" was included on the CD without his knowledge. "how the fuck did i end up on this pile o shit?" he wrote. "now that's what i call…assinine." [sic] It doesn't take a genius to figure out how UMG India was able to license a Deadmau5 track for its EDM collection: UMG is, ultimately, the owner of his Mau5trap imprint, to which the Mau5 himself is signed. His derisive posts were the first instance in which Deadmau5 took issue with the major, which owns Astralwerks, the label that licenses his Mau5trap imprint.
