Nashville's Cherub Disguises Breakup Hate With Synths and Vocal Distortion

Someone needs a Xanax.

Over the last few years, Cherub (Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber) have been taking over Nashville's small-but-steady synth scene with their lighthearted approach to synth-pop. This summer's "Doses & Mimosas" was an instant-classic party song—one that gave yours truly a great deal of "guidance" during my college years.

Next up is "Best Friend's T-Shirt/Saudia," a breakup song with lyrics so bitter they could pickle a cucumber. "'Best Friend's T-Shirt' is about a 'special someone.' I never got the chance to say how I felt to her face so I wrote a song about how I felt so everyone could hear it," Jordan tells us. If you listen past the layers of vocal distortion and synths, you'll realize that how he feels goes along these lines: "You fuck my friend might as well fuck the whole team," and, "This one's hard to swallow bitch/ You're gonna have to pay for this." Someone needs a Xanax.

Cherub's 'Leftovers' EP will be streaming exclusively on Spotify beginning 12/9 and available everywhere 12/15
