This Mix Is What Electronic Music in Russia Sounds Like Right Now

St Petersburg based Monokle has come through with a collection of Russia's best.

We can end up in a bit of a bubble when it comes to understanding the movements and sounds of the international scene. That's not to say we're not interested, but unless a UK or US based label picks up on an artist or a scene and sends them our way it can be deceptively tricky to really get a feel for what it happening outside of our own borders. We're very fortunate then to have been sent this mix by St. Petersburg based electronic maestro Monokle, full of cuts from Russia producers we otherwise would have missed.

Teens, Drugs, and HIV Jokes: Welcome to Witch House in Russia

Monokle himself is currently building up to the release of his second solo album. Titled Rings, the LP is a dreamy, jittery wander through ambient, disquieting, and then churning territories. With influences cited as ranging from 20th Century composer Erik Satie, all the way through to Flying Lotus, the palette is broad and the product is bold. The mix he has sent us contains a lot of these energies, showcasing a truly exciting side of Russian electronic music we are grateful to have been introduced to.
