Omar Souleyman Announces New Album, ‘To Syria With Love’

It arrives June 2 via Diplo’s Mad Decent label.

Wedding singer turned international musician Omar Souleyman has announced a new album, To Syria With Love. It is scheduled for release on June 2 via Diplo's Mad Decent label.

The seven-track LP is an ode to Souleyman's native country of Syria, in which he explores his "emotional connection to the land and people but not without heartache in view of the nation's current state," he said in a press release. Souleyman moved to Turkey in 2013 after his hometown became a battleground between Kurdish separatists, the Syrian army and rebel forces. "It's been six years I've been away," Souleyman said, "and I'm tired of looking for home and asking about my loved ones. My soul is wounded and it's like having dust in my eyes."

The album is also said to contain more of Souleyman's traditional dabke and baladi folk styles, but with more "techno elements."

To Syria With Love is Souleyman's third studio album, following 2013's Wenu Wenu and 2015's Bahdeni Nami. View the artwork and tracklisting below. Later this year, Souleyman will co-headline the protest stage at Moogfest in North Carolina.
