This Hilarious Chainsmokers Parody Shows You How to Write One of Their Songs in Five Minutes

On their way to becoming one of the most successful electronic music acts in the world, The Chainsmokers have received their fair share of ire. It's hard to remember another group so widely and intensely derided whose first album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

And yet, while people have been making fun of the fratcore duo online for some time now, a new parody video called "How EVERY Chainsmokers song is written" proves that there are still some laughs to be had. Produced by a Phoenix teenager named John Fassold, the clip incisively breaks down Drew Taggart and Alex Pall's lyrical approach, explaining that "you want to make it sound like you're edgy but not edgy" and that "you wanna find lyrics that talk about how hard it is being white and in love."

Using just an electric piano and his voice, Fassold utilizes tools such as a random noun generator, things lying around his room, and a process where you "point your finger at a map, pick a place, and fake about how you used to go there." Throughout the clip he improvises a number of Chainsmokers-esque songs, and unfortunately, they're kind of spot on.

Fassold makes music himself as John Gray, which you can hear on SoundCloud.
