Download: Upper Cuts presents Djeff "Kissange"

Shuffling Afrohouse rhythms straight from Luanda, Angola!

Over the next five months, Portugal's Enchufada label—run by João Barbosa from Buraka Som Sistema and his friend (also named) João—are giving away a ton of free music from the rising stars of tropical bass. This bi-weekly drop is called Upper Cuts. It's time for Season 2 and we're proud to partner with the dudes in releasing these big bad riddims into the world. Shake something!

Branko (aka Lil Jon) and his Buraka Som Sistema crew have strong ties to Angola (the African republic was a Portuguese colony for 400 years), so it's no surprise that after dropping the sounds of kuduro on the heads of the world, they continue to big up other producers from the country known for its crazy competitive dance styles.

On tap today is a free download from the crown prince of Luanda's Afrohouse scene: Djeff. "Kissange" is a smooth, almost UK-funkyish roller with a stuttering kuduro syncopation, plenty of warm keys and thick layers of hand drum riddims. (Fun fact: It's named after the kissange, a type of Angolan thumb piano). This is a great one for your pool party, sunrise set or for just lamping out on a patio somewhere and drinking tequila sunrises. (Can you tell we need a vacation?) Check out other tunes by Djeff—who also goes by the name Afrozila—here.
