RL Grime Leaves Trap Behind on Cinematic New Track “Reims”

It's his first production in three long years—and there's more on the way.

After delivering his annual Halloween mix last October, LA producer RL Grime is making his first musical appearance of the year with a new track, "Reims." Just short of four minutes long, it's dark and heavy, as is customary for the bass don, though with less of the trap music undertones that many of his fans have grown accustomed to. Instead of those usual trademark 808s, we're treated to elements of cinematic drama that build to sweeping, serotonin-flooding peaks. Listen to it below.

"Reims" is RL Grime's first solo original production since 2014, when he released his debut album Void. Last November, he released a collaboration with Skrillex and What So Not, "Waiting."

In a press release, he updated fans on what's next: "as u may or may not know, for the better part of the last 2 years i've been quietly working away on my second album. can't explain how excited i am to begin sharing what i've been working on. as a thank u for the support over the last few years, wanted to send u a free download of my new song "reims". lots of exciting things coming this year - here's to the next chapter" (sic).
