The Chainsmokers: "We've Always Just Been Two Dorky Dudes"

As current chart-topping production duo The Chainsmokers learned the hard way last month, even the multi-platinum-paved road to pop stardom has its fair share of bumps. Following a very revealing Billboard cover story that framed them as "frat bro" poster boys, Drew Taggert and Alex Pall were seemingly in damage control mode in their latest interview on ABC's late-night news program Nightline.

During his sit-down with the pair, reporter Nick Watt immediately asks them for their opinion of the story, to which Pall replied: "There are parts of it that we don't like, and there are parts that we do. I think that we should have done a better job of conveying how hard we work on our music."

The interview provides them the opportunity to do just that, going inside their studio while they explain their creative process, but it also shows The Chainsmokers' efforts to convey just how normal and low-key they are, that they're not just, in Watt's words, "braggadocios bros" who went into music for the women—in fact, Pall points out, they're still with their girlfriends from before the "craziness" of fame happened. And unlike Afrojack with his envious car collection, these guys don't even drive, but would like everyone to know that they each hold a respectable Uber rating of over 4.6 stars and don't get offended when Uber drivers switch radio stations when their songs come on.

"We've always just been two dorky dudes who are pretty self-deprecating," says Taggert.
