UPDATE [Friday, October 23, 12:00 PM]: Speaking with THUMP, the Jackson Police public information officer stated that the post was meant as a "general warning" for Halloween safety.***Halloween is right around the corner and you know what that means: razor blades in your apples, or, the 2015 equivalent, ecstasy being clandestinely passed off as candy. If you were on Facebook this morning (and, well, you probably were), you most likely saw the following headline nestled among all the celebrity nudity scandals and dancing Drake GIFs: "Ecstasy: Mississippi Police Warn Drug May Resemble Halloween Candy."The image, picked up by the Mississippi police, as well as numerous other outlets, has been spreading rapidly across social media, apparently without precedent, warning parents about potentially fatal treats being given out to children during Halloween.
But, ok, calm down for a moment. Let's give the dedicated guys in blue from the Jackson PD the benefit of the doubt. In order for this story to be true, there'd have to be someone in Mississippi that can actually make tabs that look that good—and they'd have to be an intentionally malicioussociopath. Also, are they OK getting zero return on a product that they could easily flip for BANK at some university "Bros-n-Hos" Party?Well, in that hypothetical scenario, watch out parents!There's one potential caveat to the theory, though: Snopes reports that the photo in question has been around since at least September. In fact, you can see this random guy's original Facebook post right here. So, is this all just a bunch of bible-belt fear mongering? Well, it's hard to say. I just know that if I had pills that looked like that, I wouldn't waste them on kids.A request for comment from the Jackson Police Department was not immediately answered.
