Solomun's White Isle Journals #15: The Calm before the Storm of Closing Parties

It's September in Ibiza, which means things are about to get really crazy as the season ends.

Welcome to my White Isle Journals, where you'll get an inside look at my life in Ibiza during my Solomun +1 residency this summer at Pacha.

Every week, I'll bring you deep inside Ibiza life, up-close and personal and behind the scenes. Then, I'll pick my own +1 from the island to show you the beating heart of the White Isle––the people. Lastly, I'll pick the track that took over the airwaves for me that week. There's so much going on, and on this party Island, you tend to forget fast. That's why I wanted to write it all down, so I can remember it all and share with you.

Last week, I had Luca and Anthony from Audiofly at Pacha. I've known them for a long time, and played at their Flying Circus parties in Miami many years ago. They're really nice guys!

While we had dinner, they told me a funny story. Years ago Luca's mother found some weed at his place and was really upset. But Luca doesn't smoke weed, at all, and always said: "Mama, it's not me! Trust me!" But she didn't and never let him forget it. During our dinner, it became clear for the first time that the weed was actually from Anthony! Finally, he admitted being the culprit.

You can feel now that it is September in Ibiza. The people are a little more relaxed. August is always extreme, that's why everybody enjoys September so much.

Luca was accompanied to Pacha by his little sister, who was in an Ibiza club for the first time. He took good care of her the whole night, just like an Italian brother should do.

After Pacha we all went to Tox, but before I continued on playing with Audiofly, because they had a birthday to celebrate on Tuesday, I decided to go to bed instead. September, lemme tell ya!

On Thursday, we dropped the final curtain of our Solomun+LIVE outdoor party at Destino. We were supposed to do the closing two weeks later, but the authorities of Ibiza cancelled two parties, one of which is our closing. That's a real shame, but what can you do? The last show with Whomadewho as my live guest was truly amazing. They put on a good show, made really good connection with the crowd, and they great atmosphere while the sky full of stars.

God showed us some love with the weather, finally, after bad weather for days. Thursday was only sun, and after two more hours at the basement club, I went to bed.

I can really feel that it has been a long season. I have less power in general––I even missed Yoga lesions two times because I preferred to sleep! But great parties refresh me all the time and give me back the power.

Introducing Giovanni & Nayade

I always meet them as a couple, they are always two, that's why I count them as one. They are G&N, like one word. He is a true guy from Napoli, and she comes from Barcelona, and they fell in love in Ibiza.

They are working in real estate and also as wedding planners. We've know each other for three years. Even though at the beginning they said they would only go to DC10, they also show up at Pacha from time to time. Because they like it, and because they have clients who want to join them when they come to my parties.

They are a real good team, as married couple or as business partners, they always seem relaxed and laid back. I really like them.

Nayade and Giovanni on Partying with Solomun

We met Solomun the year before he did Pacha. He was looking for a house and we showed him a little bit around. Since then, we felt always part of the family, because he and his team accepted us, so we meet quite often.

Unfortunately, our problem every summer is: that we don't have really time to go party. That's why September is our favourite month, and of course all the closing parties. We can finally go out more often and also are super excited to see him playing at Circo Loco for the first time.

This is what we felt last Sunday when we visited him at Pacha: This party is really evolving in a good way, growing every year, with more feelings, more emotions, then ever. For me, nayade, the real meaning of a party in Ibiza in a club is a really Ibizan atmosphere. The people who go to Solomun, they don't go out to see and to be seen. The go out for the music, and this is what a party should be about.

On the dancefloor, I was dancing with a couple, they were like 60 years old. They were drinking and dancing, could be my mom and my dad, nothing fancy, just enjoying themselves. And all our London clients all want to go to Solomun, all love to go there on Sundays. And we never go to Pacha, only Solomun!
