Download: Joel Compass - "Astronaut (Henry Krinkle Remix)"

The British R&B wiz gets a bass-lift.

Joel Compass has already been called "a black Brit Jeff Buckley" by some, and "another miserable indie R&B practioner" by others, so we'd like to toss in our own two cents: the kid croons like Craig David, but with a softer touch. I mean, seriously, you could take a nap on those lips. The 20-year-old D'Angelo-in-the-making is the latest son of the Black Butter Records family—that young indie label that's been killing it recently with drum and bass quartet Rudimental and soulful pop princess Jessie Ware at the top of their roster. Check out our premiere of "Astronaut," as remixed by South Floridian Henry Krinkle, a trans-Atlantic collaboration that knocks the original into slow grind club music territory. And keep your eye on this kid. He's going places.
