Los Angeles duo DIVORCE today shared "Tea Lizard's Lament," the frantic first single off their forthcoming debut EP Jet Fuel on NY imprint Sweat Equity. Although it's essentially a fast, hard techno track, it stands out for its genuinely ambitious filigree of time-modulated breakbeats. Aside from a recurring central motif of snares slurred up and down in pitch, "Tea Lizard's Lament" rarely repeats the same pattern more than a few times; instead, the rhythm is twisted in an increasingly intense series of ecstatic variations.DIVORCE told THUMP about the track's genesis over email. "'Tea Lizard's Lament' marks the start of Jet Fuel's more frenetic B-side," they said. "The title came from a sleepless brainstorm, and it's a misnomer we find both really funny and absurd. More importantly, though, it reflects our current situation where the work and art of black creators is consumed and regurgitated by corporations for attention and financial gain. That's lamentable."Jet Fuel will be released on February 28, and is available for preorder on Bandcamp.
