New York musician Destiny Frasqueri, a.k.a. Princess Nokia, was reportedly involved in an altercation last week during a charity fashion show at Cambridge University. According to local media reports, a white male student allegedly verbally harassed Frasqueri during her performance, provoking her to hit the student.

Frasqueri said that she could "see him mouthing dirty obscenities like, show me your tits," in an interview with FLY, a Cambridge organization for women and non-binary people of color. Witnesses at the show said that Frasqueri then hit the student three times and ended the show early, reports University newspaper The Cambridge Student.

FLY reports that Frasqueri said she "does not condone violence," but felt that the student's behavior towards her compromised her safety. She said she has a "zero-tolerance" stance towards "instances of sexism and sexual harassment." Frasqueri told the organization that she wanted to "let the women of colour [in the audience] know she was sorry."

The student involved in the altercation denied claims that he provoked Frasqueri. "I was standing in the audience and was told by a fellow audience member that the name of the performer was 'Abigail,'" he said in an interview with the Cambridge Student. "Given that I was enjoying the performance, I shouted out 'Let's go Abigail!'"

In their post, FLY described the incident as "public display of sexism and misogynoir," and said that "the humiliation experienced by Princess Nokia onstage is all too common in the daily experiences of women of color at Cambridge."
