Atlanta Lo-Fi Producer Phil Jones Launches 'Haunted' Project with a Tense New Video

After touring with Toro y Moi, the producer is now ready to do his own thing. Watch the visuals for "Budder" now.

Producer Phil Jones hails from Atlanta, a city known more for its blunt-soaked hip-hop rather than hazy electronica. Still, after holding down keys and percussion efforts for Washed Out and touring with chillwave outfit Toro y Moi as part of his own band Dogbite, Jones is now ready for the second act of his career, an electronically-geared debut release under the name Haunted. His new single "Budder," was just released May 13, and will be followed by his debut solo EP release next week.

The music video to Jones' single "Budder" mirrors the track's auditory vibe (hazy lo-fi sound—spacey snares—chillwave stuff) to the T, and features an anonymous couple who seem to have some serious communication problems, but definitely no issue with expressing themselves. Scenes include the video's female character performing some interpretive dance moves in a dark neighborhood street, while the guy goes searching for her (and perhaps life's answers) in a sprawling grass field. They also both seem to have some strange obsession with a glass vase.

We're not sure quite what to make of Haunted's video, but it surely compliments the ominous tone of Jones' production, wrapping the viewer up with a layer of slowly building emotional tension.
