This New Claim That a Massive Attack Member is Banksy is Surprisingly Convincing

Some of life's greatest mysteries revolve around people who are anonymous. Who, for instance, was Jack the Ripper? Who was Deep Throat? Who are Burial and Marshmello? One man claims to have cracked the case of a long faceless figure of graffiti lore, Banksy—and surprisingly, the person in question could have been in front of us the whole time.

On his blog, Glasgow Transmission, journalism student Craig Williams theorized that Banksy is none other than Massive Attack member 3D, aka Robert Del Naja—or at the very least, he is the head of a group of artists responsible for the various murals that pop up all over the world. The evidence, however circumstantial, is pretty convincing, too: Del Naja was a renowned graffiti artist in Bristol before joining Massive Attack, and both Del Naja and Banksy have gone on record speaking about their friendship with the other.

Additionally, the group's North American tour stops over the last ten years correlate with dates and cities in which the street artist's work appeared. Williams also points out Banksy's murals in places such as New Orleans, Melbourne, Palestine, Mali, and Naples, and the connections those regions have to either Massive Attack or Del Naja. Tomorrow, Massive Attack headline what will be a homecoming show in Bristol; if this theory sticks, all eyes will be on Del Naja for more reason than the music.
