Dogfood Music Group boss Mykki Blanco, Syrian electronic musician Omar Souleyman, and Discwoman-affiliated artist BEARCAT are topping the bill for North Carolina festival Moogfest's protest stage. The stage was first announced in early February in opposition to discriminatory policies sweeping across the US, such as Trump's first iteration of his travel ban and the potential spread of laws like North Carolina's House Bill 2 a.k.a. the "bathroom bill" to other states.The protest stage's program will also include talks and events centered around participatory technology, featuring organizations such as MIT Open Doc Lab, NEW INC, and developers from Goldsmiths University in the UK. Other musicians set to perform include veteran rapper Talib Kweli and Raleigh punks Pie Face Girls. It will all take place on the festival's main stage on opening night."We are alive in our mission to bring the dream of a more equal society to all humans," Moogfest said in the original letter announcing the protest stage. "We seek out facts, respect evidence-based science, and welcome a wide-open worldview. We believe this base of knowledge powers creativity, imagination, and innovation."The festival will take place in Durham from May 18–21, and tickets are available now. Brainfeeder boss Flying Lotus, electronic music pioneer Suzanne Ciani, and experimental band Animal Collective are among the headliners.Follow Alexander on Twitter.
