Príncipe Records' Batida Prodigy Nidia Minaj Celebrates Her "19th Birthday" With a New Track

After winning a batch of year-end accolades, the Portuguese producer is back, and hard at work.

In Lisbon label Príncipe's own words, they're "dedicated to releasing 100% real contemporary dance music coming out of [their] city, its suburbs, projects & slums," and this pursuit has so far seen them develop a very serious reputation. And yet while they have never put out an unmoving record, some are going to shine more than others, of course, and Portuguese producer Nidia Minaj's debut for the label last year, entitled Danger, really stood out as something radically innovative.

Critical acclaim hasn't made Minaj too busy to get back to work, though: in just the last month, she's uploaded five new tracks to SoundCloud, and they're all sick. The latest celebrates turning 19, simply called "19th birthday," and it finds the producer working a breathy sample, melancholy house keyboards, and a calmly self-possessed rhythmic foundation into something slow-burning and rich. Stream it below, and hear her other recent tracks here. Also, if you're in London, be sure to check out her performance on January 29 at Wild Combination with NTS Radio's DEBONAIR and Whities' Reckonwrong; you can buy your ticket here.
