20 Year Dance-Punk Veterans !!! Release House Tune – "All U Writers"

"When we say that you had to yell at people to dance at indie shows in the 1990s, people think you're lying. But that point really did exist. The idea of dancing really was that wild."

!!! were key rabble-rousers in the millennial wave of dance-rock that acted as a precursor to blog house and pre-EDM. But the band, formed in Sacramento in 1995, had long been tussling to get hips moving in the indie world by that point.

"The division between indie and dance used to be starker," band leader Nic Offer tells THUMP. "When we say that you had to yell at people to dance at indie shows in the 1990s, people think you're lying. But that point really did exist. The idea of dancing really was that wild."

The band released their fifth album (and their third on Warp Records) THR!!!ER in 2013. "All U Writers," premiered exclusively on THUMP, is the group's first original rumbling in almost two years (a THUMP MIXED BY aside) and is a clubbier affair than the group is known for. "I can't tell if this is the direction we're going in," says Offer. "It's definitely what's started exciting us more. We're kinda throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. We've written close to forty songs."

"All U Writers" maintains that quintessential !!! trait of blending electronic and organic elements in dance, but they approached it in this instance in a novel way. "It's definitely a club track," says Offer. "There's elements in it that are from an original jam that the band was doing, chopped up and fucked with. It's almost like we sampled ourselves."

"I remember when we made this song we were listening to this one Nina Kraviz track," Offer goes on. "Some of our favorite tracks sample some old disco loop. Well, having been a band this long, we're a pretty jammin' little disco band ourselves."
