Dengue Dengue Dengue Intertwine Slithering Footwork and Cumbia Beats on New Single

The track was inspired by some time spent hanging out with Teklife's DJ Earl.

Peruvian duo, Dengue Dengue Dengue, have shared a delightfully slithering new single called "The Enemy" off their forthcoming third album Siete Raíces. The track pairs a cumbia rhythm with footwork's woozy yet agile approach to lowend, tying it all together with a narcotic, consonant-enunciating synth.

"This track was created after the time we visited Teklife's DJ Earl, we stayed at his place one night and he showed us what he was working on," they explained to THUMP via email. "So we went back home and blended some cumbia beats with footwork. The vocal sample is actually Alo Wala, it's a snippet of some vocals that she's doing for us for another track that will be out in the near future."

Last year the band appeared on the first-ever compilation of Peruvian tropical bass, and in 2014 we produced a documentary about the country's digital cumbia scene.

Siete Raíces will be out via Lisbon imprint Enchufada on June 24, and is currently available for preorder on iTunes.
