DJ Shadow Enlists Daedelus for a Remix of 'Entroducing' cut "Mutual Slump"

Veteran producer DJ Shadow has enlisted Los Angeles beat scene affiliate Daedelus for a solemn and spastic remix of his 1996 track "Mutual Slump," off his classic Endtroducing….. LP. The tune will be released on the forthcoming 20th Anniversary Endtrospective Edition of the album, and finds the original's reserved sense of melancholy reconfigured in a new framework. In a way it sounds like three songs played at once, with snippets of melody and rhythm jostling for limited sonic space, held together by a shared sense of momentum.

DJ Shadow shared his take on the remix with THUMP via email. "Daedelus is an adventurous and restless producer who is always capable of balancing technique with taste, never losing the groove," he said. "I love his remix of 'Mutual Slump' because it retains the moodiness of the original, while thrusting the drums into a programming realm that would have been impossible 20 years ago."

The 20th Anniversary Endtrospective Edition will arrive October 28 in a 6-LP or 3-CD package, and include demos, alternate versions, and live versions, as well as remixes from the likes of Hudson Mohawke, Salva, and more.
