British producer Emika made her name with heavy electronic releases on labels like Ninja Tune and her own imprint Emika Records—now she's back with her first symphonic piece ever, titled "Melanfonie." She crowd-funded it on Kickstarter, and worked with the soprano vocalist Michaela Šrůmová and The Prague Metropolitan Orchestra. "Melanfonie Momente" is the first single from the album—it consists of a series of six distinct "momentes," ranging from the twinkling "Glock" to the stirring "Coda," whose strings glitch and stutter like paper in the wind. According to a press release, this single finds Emika returning to her roots—she grew up playing piano and taking composition lessons as a child, before shifting towards electronic music. In a quote sent to us over email, she explained how this piece came to be.

"I started my own label so I would be free to make electronic and classical music together," she said. "My first symphony is my biggest production to date with The Prague Metropolitan Orchestra and my soprano muse Michaela Srumova. I asked my fans for help and they donated €25,000 for the recording before hearing any music. The piece is about Miracles, the highs and lows of living, the struggle to face destiny, and so much of this is becoming my real life. It's been a wild adventure working independently with my fans backing me, and it just keeps on growing."
