Listen to Gorgon City's "Aries" and Work Through Mercury in Retrograde's Messiness

As you're probably aware, Mercury is currently in retrograde, so horoscopes are definitely on a lot of people's minds right now. This being the case, it's a little hard to notice that this sensuous, insistently inconclusive new Gorgon City track is called "Aries" and not draw some kind of connection. Communication is broken down, unexpected problems are showing up everywhere, we should be reviewing tense issues instead of starting new endeavors—and here someone's just repeatedly singing "holding me close…" to anyone and everyone over a teasingly sinister bassline, clearly unable to fully figure themselves out. We sympathize.

"We made the track in one session, jamming with the hardware in our studio, writing it all around a vocal sample that loops towards the end, 'you're love keeps on pulling me close,'" they explained to THUMP via email. "We actually sampled the vocal from one of our own songs that we wrote about a year ago but never released—we just loved the vibe that one line had."

"Aries" is the second original track to be shared off their forthcoming Money EP, which will mark their debut onDamian Lazarus'Crosstown Rebels imprint. The record comes out this Friday, May 13, and will include remixes from David Morales and Riva Starr; it is currently available for pre-order.

Recently, the duo got down to the nitty gritty and told us the best and worst things about electronic music. And if you want to measure how far they have come since 2013—it's certainly been quite a ride—revisit their THUMP Exclusive Mix from that year.
