James Blake Dropped a Grime Collab with Trim on His BBC Radio 1 Show

The British producer also shared a B-side track that's been kicking around the internet for years.

James Blake has had a longstanding residency with BBC Radio 1, and its afforded him a venue to debut new material at his whim. Last night, the UK electronic songwriter shared two tracks—one he produced, and an old composition that he's been kicking around for years—on the show.

"RPG" is a track written by grime artist Trim, who will release the track as a record on the label cofounded by Blake, 1-800 Dinosaur. The two originally worked together back in 2012 when Blake (under his grime-oriented Harmonix alias) reworked two of Trim's tracks. In "RPG" Blake's usual angelic production veers toward a dirtier sound to give Trim's grizzly lyrics of crimes and shady characters extra grit.

For the fans of Blake's softer side, he also shared an old cut "Evening Fell Hard for Us" featuring the experimental crooning technique—pairing himself singing over a heavily filtered loop of his voice—that's become a trademark sound for the producer. Blake has previously shared the track on radio mixes before, and though its available on the internet as a bootleg, the version shared last night is arguably the cleanest.

In other Blake news, the producer dropped a brand new track "Modern Silence" on the show last month. It's the first single available from his forthcoming album Radio Silence. The speculations of guest features on that album have kept the internet abuzz since the album was announced in December.
