Listen to a Glorious Disco Edit of a 1976 O'Jays Classic By Razor-N-Tape Co-Boss JKriv

Next up on the Brooklyn imprint's acclaimed edit series is a 12" kicking off with "The Queen On Her Throne."

Perhaps even more so than a conventional remix, bootleg, or rework, a DJ edit is a true artform—one that requires restraint, attention to detail, and most importantly, really good taste. A masterful DJ edit sees a producer add small, yet important changes to a song—a "tune-up" of sorts—often making it more fine-tuned for the dancefloor. In the world of disco, edits reign supreme, taking some of the most classic tunes of yesteryear into the modern age, whether that's through teasing a yummy vocal line, or just stretching out an instrumental to a length more fit for a DJ set.

Brooklyn label Razor-N-Tape has a wonderful edit series that has featured works from the likes of Dimitri from Paris (utilizing his Dimitri from Brooklyn guise), Chrissy, and Tom of Finland. Next up, co-label head JKriv throws a spin on a classic 1976 track "Darlin' Darlin' Baby," by Ohio disco/R&B dons The O'Jays. The track will be the A-side to JKriv's new release, simply titled JKriv Edits.

Here's what JKriv had to say about the release:

"This was actually one of the first edit/reworks I did that got a lot of attention from the SoundCloud community about five years ago, so it's great to be giving it a vinyl release finally. I've always loved the original O'Jays track and I remember messing around with it and finding that first loop, and immediately realizing that it was gonna be a good one. From there I kinda knew how the whole thing would take shape, including leaving in the beautiful break with the harp rolls. That's kinda the key moment for me actually—the way it breaks up the rhythm and how the beats drop right back in."
