Listen To BOSCO x Jarell Perry's REO-Produced Slow and Silky R&B Jam "Bullet"

An early contender for best R&B track of 2016

BOSCO and Jarell have teamed up to produce an early contender for best R&B track of 2016.

BOSCO, formerly known as the Atlanta-based Neo-Soul musician Brittany Bosco, has gone through a period of reinvention. With her newly crafted avant-R&B, she recently linked up with LA crooner Jarell Perry and Lil' Wayne producer REO, for the another toothsome track, "Bullet." Under the haze of silky keys and gentle percussion, BOSCO and Jarell trade verses that speak to the promises of things to come: "This is the minute / This is your moment babe / You wanna live / Make it or break it babe."

THUMP had a brief conversation with the two singers about their relationship and how "Bullet" came to be.

THUMP: How did this track come about? How did you two first get in contact?

BOSCO: I first heard of Jarell's music while searching for a vocalist on Soundcloud. I stumbled across this Frank Ocean cover he did and was thoroughly impressed. It's rare to find artist that [can] still sing and have a unique tone and approach to songs.

Jarell: We also had a mutual friend in REO the producer, who I had worked with years ago while writing for other artists. That combination made for an easy start.

What about your respective styles made this collaboration work so well, in your opinion?

BOSCO: Honestly, we hung out first getting to know each other before jumping into the music. It's important that a vibe is established so the music can flow. Dialogue is so important—sort of a lost art. From there, we discovered so many similarities from growing up in the church singing, listening to the same type of music, avant-garde melodies and vocal layering in our records, bookstores, and design. We already had a mutual respect for each other's craft and I knew our voices would blend together perfectly.

Jarell: BOSCO is constantly pushing toward the future with her ears and eyes, something I really respect and also strive for in my work. Great collabs always begin with great taste.

If you had to name three things the track was influenced by, what would they be?

BOSCO: Portishead, Massive Attack, Desire/Passion.

Jarell: Bond movies, the color purple, downtown LA.

On January 30, BOSCO will perform and host a show at Brooklyn's Silent Barn, and on February 5, Jarell Perry will make an appearance at LA's Lyric Theater. Catch them while you can still do so without having to pay a scalper's fee.
