Listen to Two Heartfelt Songs From Yung Lean Collaborator Baba Stiltz

The Stockholm-based producer and Studio Barnhus darling delivers an EP of woozy, emotional jams.

Baba Stiltz might be a fresh-faced 22 year old, but the Stockholm producer has already become the darling of the Studio Barnhus imprint, making his name with tuneful house and disco productions oozing a carefree, upbeat attitude. It helps that he started making music young—writing his first song in kindergarten, releasing folk-pop albums as The Bethlehem Beard Corporation by the time he hit puberty, and contributing beats for his fellow countrymen Yung Lean and the Sadboys.

Last year, Baba Stiltz released his debut full-length Total on Studio Barnhus—an album they colorfully described as "psychedelic screw-pop, minimalistic emo-acid and opiate-drenched coming-of-age-ambient." Now, he's back on the label with Thailand (The Tourist in Me), a two-track EP which sees him dusting off an acoustic guitar and singing about a budding relationship: "let's make this last, don't move too fast/make it for real, know how you feel."

Over email, Baba Stiltz explained to THUMP "About six months ago I found a new kind of feeling. I'd been watching a lot of Kitchen Nightmares and also some Interstellar, traveling quite a bit and feeling somewhat despondent. During this period I recorded Thailand (The Tourist in Me). I imagine that people might think the single is "too pop" or "too not pop"—but to me, and the people that I make music for, these two tracks have served their purpose and allowed me to feel differently about some stuff. I hope they can mean something to the people who give these two songs a chance."

Perhaps Britney Spears put it best when she whispered in "I'm a Slave 4 U": "I know I may be young, but I've got feelings too."
