Phil Moffa at work.
New York based producer and musician Phil Moffa (AKA The Butcha) knows what he's doing when it comes to atmospherics. His new EP on the Martinez Brothers' Cuttin' Headz imprint is full of dark, scuttling percussion and blushing synth-swells. It's the sort of high-end engineering we've come to expect from the man whose name has been attached to everyone from Seth Troxler to DJ Spider in the past. Out of his Butcha Sound Studios in Manhattan, he has fostered his very own production line, facilitating both himself and others in the pursuit analog adventures. His new 1001 EP is his strongest work to date, and comes with two originals from Moffa alongside two reworks from new school techno don Matrixxman. We're premiering one of them today—the rough and ready, acidic retelling of "99 Prince St." File this one next to your squelchiest tools. It's a steely, heads-down affair.
