Music

MIXED BY Curses

Slinky Gotham house grooves from your favorite Brooklyn bad boy.

These days your average DJ / producer can accumulate more aliases than a hacker being hunted by the NSA. From Richie Hawtin (Plastikman) to Clockwork (RL Grime) and even trance icon Armin van Buuren (Gaia), many figures in dance music have found solace in changing up their handles throughout their careers—pairing each with a different sound or style.

Trouble & Bass founder and fellow Brooklynite Luca Venezia first caused a stir dropping supercharged breakbeats under the moniker Drop the Lime—and more recently managed to reinvent himself under the name Curses. Armed with his iconic cowboy hat and toothpick, Venezia has put down the slamming 'ardkore in favor of a slinkier groove that he calls "Gotham house." His latest reincarnation was made for the afterparty, and it may be his best experiment to date, so dive into this one-hour mix and let Curses take you all the way into the late night.

And, if you're in Brooklyn on March 7, catch Curses and the rest of the Trouble & Bass/Safer at Night gang at their party with Shadow Child, Worthy, and Plastician. More info here. Plus catch T&B sister label Safer at Night dropping April 1.
