Uni Stefson Uses Falsetto to Look at Modern Masculinity with "Man Feelings"

The Reykjavík-based crooner is one of Iceland's biggest up-and-comers.

Icelandic artist Uni Stefson is trying to figure it out what modern-day masculinity looks like. On his latest track "Man Feelings," he tackles that question head on, singing in an auto-tuned falsetto, "Can't you see that I'm a man behind these feelings/Goodbye, I don't think you understand that I am leaving." According to Stefson—who also heads up the band Retro Stefson—"Man Feelings" is a "reflection on masculinity from the perspective of a male of my generation. Times are changing, and the people too."

So why the falsetto? What is a "man feeling"? Who is he leaving? Questions aside, we can still enjoy the trance chords that stab into the ethereal pop song. The production was done by the Reykjavík-based artist's friends, local hip-hop producers Jói and Ingi—the same team behind the debut album of Icelandic rapper Gísli Pálmi, an album Stefson calls "true masterpiece."
