0PN's New Video Turns Nickelodeon's Slime Time Live Into A Pimply Teen Fantasy

"It turned out [Ezra] was a humanoid alien stuck in an infinite loop of molting puberty caused by enigmatic stuff beyond comprehension."

From what we have heard (and seen) of it thus far, Oneohtrix Point Never's new album, Garden of Delete, is all about exploring teen fantasy. Recurring themes include like idol worship (ie, the album's seeming obsession with a made-up band, Kaoss Edge), immersion in virtual reality fantasy worlds (0PN's fictive relationship with a humanoid alien, Ezra, and his bloglife), and alienation.

In other words, Lopatin's exposing the dark or ugly sides of the picture, too—not just the prepackaged Hollywood glamor of teen sexiness. His new video "Sticky Drama," made with contemporary artist and frequent collaborator Jon Rafman, delves into things like LARPing, masturbation, and hormonal drive. This messy subject matter results in a very messy video, with lots of slimes, goos, and pastes in neon hues decorating the scene. There is also a pretty hilarious visual reference throughout to Nickelodeon's 2000-2003 "Slime Time Live" TV show.

Curiously, the character with lots and lots of acne in the video resembles 0pn's description of Ezra in his initial album statement: "his skin problem was more complex than anything I could have imagined…It turned out he was a humanoid alien stuck in an infinite loop of molting puberty caused by enigmatic stuff beyond comprehension."
