For our latest episodes of Supersonic, we headed to Mountain Oasis Festival (October 25-27) in Asheville, North Carolina. In it's debut year, the festival presented an impressive line-up spanning from Nine Inch Nails and Gary Numan to Bassnectar and Disclosure, playing in clubs and arenas throughout the Downtown area-kind of like a mini-SXSW for the mountain set. While there we interviewed Cut Copy, Mount Kimbie, Silver Apples, and T. Williams about what goes into making their music.If you can't tell from the title alone, Cut Copy's new record Free Your Mind is an awesome homage to the late '80s/early '90s acid house era-a time where PLUR didn't exist yet but people definitely thought that raving and house music were going to change the world. Cut Copy are definitely no strangers to creating positive vibes; indeed, Melbourne, Australia's gift to the "dance rock" world have been making great feel-good songs since they day they started. (We've made out to "Lights and Music" and "Hearts on Fire" more than a few times on a dancefloor.) In this interview, drummer Mitchell Scott and singer/keyboardist Dan Whitford hang out with a tiger while talking about the influence of club culture on their songs and how they prepare to take them from the studio to the stage.
