The xx's New Video For "On Hold" Explores High School Romance

The band's new album 'I See You' will be out on January 13.

English trio The xx shared the sentimental music video for "On Hold" today, the lead single off their forthcoming third album I See You. The clip was shot on location in Marfa, Texas—where the band wrote and recorded some of the new album—and tells the story of a high school romance between a football player and a cheerleader.

Directed by former club photographer Alasdair McLellan, the video is filled with heartwarmingly familiar adolescent tropes, ranging in highs and lows from nerve-wracking amorous uncertainty to carefree lust and hormonal melancholy. Along with being interspersed with scenic landscape imagery, it features the band performing at a gleeful house party.

The band recently announced a 2017 tour lasting from February to the beginning of April, and surprised some fans by sending them free tickets in the mail.

I See You will be released by Young Turks on January 13.
