Watch the Psychedelic Dance Fantasy of Robert Lux and LACES's "I Feel New"

The directorial debut Joey Chriqui is a pastiche of Sledgehammer, Cindy Sherman, and Being John Malkovich

The Brooklyn-based DJ, Robert Lux, caught our attention last year with his excellent Music For Dancing EP, which combined electronica, disco, and funk into a unique and uplifting strand of dance music. Now Lux is back with a new single and video featuring the LA-based singer, LACES.

Directed by Joey Chriqui and animated by Rose Todaro, the video for "I Feel New" is the kind of poptimistic tune you could dance to in the morning. The video features actress Christine Spang—as a face in the clouds, as dancers in mansion rooms, and hanging wall portraits. Chriqui's direction and Todaro's animation techniques recall Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" video, the art of Cindy Sherman, and the Fregoli delusion (a condition where you believe everyone in the world is the same person) that plagued John Malkovich in Being John Malkovich.

"This video was a long time in the making and a testament to the fact that going with the flow, remaining flexible and open, and trusting in creative partners can yield unexpectedly great results," said Lux in a released statement. "The goofy, surreal, psychedelia of it is exactly what the song needs. For the music, LACES [and I], we were more interested in capturing a feeling than telling a story, and this video manages to have that same effect visually through its constantly-diving-deeper motion until you are spit out exactly where you began."
