We Scarfed Korean Bar Food with Far East Movement

Over large bottles of Hite and steaming bowls of noodles, the group talk racial identity, the struggles of a major label, and their Spam'n'Eggs festival.

K-town's finest, Far East Movement, have been changing the face of pop music since their "Like a G6" hit number one on the Billboard Top 100 almost a half decade ago. Not only was the tune the first by an Asian-American act to top the charts, its effortless confluence of hip-hop, pop, and dance served as a bellwether of the rampant genre-mashing that was about to blow the musical landscape to smithereens.

The group's KTown Riot EP, released this past October, finds Far East Movement continuing their solid tradition in turn-up with a grip of hip-hop influenced dance heaters featuring everyone from RiFF RaFF to Schoolboy Q to Sidney Samson. And like always, the crew rep their neighborhood like nobody else in the game can claim the right to do.

Kev Nish, DJ Virman, and Prohgress of the group took us to Toe-Bang, a K-Town local's favorite, and discussed aspects of their unique position in music over large bottles of Hite and steaming bowls of noodles. From racial identity to major label tribulations to their Spam'n'Eggs Festival, Far East give us the rundown on the real tip.
