Studio 80 heeft vanavond naar buiten gebracht dat het in januari de deuren sluit, nadat de club aan het Rembrandtplein is verkocht door oprichter Duncan Stutterheim. De club wordt overgenomen door het team achter Disco Dolly en Bloemenbar. Op Facebook zegt de club in een bericht dat ze "deze week het nieuws vernamen dat de club verkocht is aan een nieuwe eigenaar" en "het nieuws een grote schok was voor ons allemaal, het team is er helemaal kapot van."Hiermee komt er een einde aan een instituut van het Amsterdamse nachtleven, dat afgelopen zomer nog het tien jaar jubileum groots vierde. De 80 werd in 2005 door de medeoprichter van ID&T opgezet als stichting, om te fungeren als een creatief platform voor nieuwe elektronische muziek, en zich te richten op de ontwikkeling en begeleiding van jong talent in alle disciplines van eigentijdse clubcultuur. De club stond samen met Club 11 en Sugar Factory symbool voor een nieuwe generatie clubs met een meer 'alternatieve' filosofie, die samenviel met de opkomst van de minimal-scene. Na Dick Koopman (2005 – 2007) en Gert van Veen (2008 – 2013) is Tessa Nijdam de huidige programmeur van de 80. Nijdam zette een nieuwe lijn uit met veel ruimte voor avontuurlijke elektronische muziek uit de niche, vaak in de vorm van labelavonden. Na het sluiten van Trouw in januari bloeide de club weer op, en werd het de belangrijkste club van de stad. De club onderhoudt nauwe banden met vooraanstaande Amsterdamse artiesten als San Proper, Marcel Vogel, Tom Trago en Boris Werner.Bericht op Facebook:GOOD BYE, DEAR FRIENDS!It is with great sadness that we must announce that Studio 80 will close its doors in January. After having dealt with a difficult period earlier this year, mainly due to selling his company ID&T to the now rapidly dwindling SFX conglomerate, Stutterheim's passion for nightlife culture has been decreasing over the past few months - which led him to the difficult decision to sell the venue before the end of the year.We would like to use this opportunity to thank everyone we have worked with so closely over the past 10 years, our amazing staff, the artists who made the crowd dance every weekend, their booking agents, all the promotors and labels with whom we've collaborated on so many amazing nights.As much as we are heartbroken about the situation, we are determined to make the last month nothing less than legendary, together with each and everyone of you.
